A positively wretched edition of Wells' hard-to-find short fiction. I am certain the people who put this 2017 CreateSpace Independent Publishing Platform print job of the 1898 Harper collection by the same title never once looked at the pages in this mess. The book is not a photographic copy of the original pages of the Harper but rather a howlingly inept, copy-and-paste rip off that compresses the entire collection into a single 188-page paragraph--including the page headers and numbers--that adds innumerable typos, disjointed fragments, and run-on sentences. Maddening to read and exasperating to separate out one story from the next throughout its unpaginated layout, this CreateSpace edition is a total disgrace. Even the text on the front and back covers is riddled with errors! DO NOT BUY THIS PIECE OF CRAP! YOU WILL REGRET IT! Shame on Amazon for selling this monstrous con job of a publication. THIS HUGE BOOK HAS ALMOST ALL OF H.G.WELLS BEST WRITINGS. THE STORIES ARE AMAZING AND THIS BOOK IS A MUST FOR ANY SCI-FI LOVER.
This collection is a total travesty, the formatting is a complete mess with random linebreaks, page numbers in the middle of paragraphs of text, and all around shoddy workmanship. While the content of the stories may be a delight the process of reading them in this collection is just plain painful. I feel bad for the relative who bought me this as a gift and wasted their money. Find a different collection.
